Sandbach

Glenda Jackson, Daniel Craig and Ben Miller are all Cheshire born and bred, and our Carney Cheshire alumni have continued to do the county proud, since the Academy was established in Sandbach in 2017.

Students have gone on to train at professional drama schools such as LAMDA and Guildford School of Acting, but also appear in short films and perform in some of the most prestigious local theatres, including The New Vic, The Royal Exchange and Manchester’s award-winning Hope Mill Theatre.

Carney Cheshire offers industry standard training, opportunities to perform and a fun, relaxed environment to learn.

Tiny Stage (Ages 4 – 6)

Our “Tiny Performers” stage is a Carney students first foray into the world of acting and performance. The classes for our youngest students are designed to help boost a child’s confidence, concentration, communication and coordination skills.

Through dramatic play, movement, dance, singing and games, students in this stage can expect to take their first steps into the inspiring and magical world of performance.

Kids Stage (Ages 7 – 10)

Students develop confidence, imagination, teamwork and discipline.  They  gain a good understanding of the language of the stage whilst taking their first steps in vocal technique, character development and theatre devising, with a focus on peer to peer feedback. The classes are fun, energetic and a great introduction to performance and stage craft.

Youth Stage (Ages 11-14)

Students continue to develop their confidence, imagination and discipline, but delve deeper into character development. We use scripts from screen and theatre, and support students through their first foray into script analysis.

The classes are the fun, group oriented and energetic. Students have the opportunity to perform scenes from well-known stage and screen productions, as well as achieve a taste of what it’s like to attend auditions and work professionally.

After completing Stage 3 students have developed key skills such as listening; performing as part of a group; stage direction and communicating with others whilst on stage.

Teen Stage (Ages 15 – 16)

Students in Stage 4 focus on vocal techniques used in professional theatre and begin to take a more in-depth look at script analysis and character development.  The students work on monologues, duologues and small group scenes throughout the year.

Improvisation is an important skill to all actors and is key to Stage 4 training - students have the opportunity to devise and perform their own pieces of theatre.

After completing Stage 4, students have a good knowledge of theatre practitioners and practices, particularly Stanislavski. They leave this group with an understanding of robust and professional performance techniques, which is crucial to any professional actor. This includes key skills including emotional recall, stage direction and acting for camera.
